ScrollScape
Overview
ScrollScape is a 2D puzzle platformer where players solve challenges by combining character movement with manipulation of system-like windows (scroll, resize, click). The game details is here.
I worked as an Audio Designer and QA contributor, supporting both gameplay feedback design and playtest-driven iteration.
Responsibilities
-
Designed gameplay and UI audio (Reaper)
-
Supported playtesting sessions (in-person & remote)
-
Collected player behavior data (screen recording, questionnaires)
-
Analyzed feedback and contributed to iteration decisions
Design Goals
The project focused on creating a clear and intuitive gameplay experience in a system-based puzzle environment.
Key challenges:
-
Players must understand mechanics without explicit instruction
-
Interaction combines platforming + UI manipulation
-
Maintain flow and pacing across increasing puzzle complexity
Audio Design
-
Jump SFX
-
UI interaction SFX - support system based mechanics
-
Click
-
Scroll
-
-
Start Menu SFX
-
BGM - maintain focus during puzzle solving

Iteration & Playtest Insights
Playtesting revealed several key experience issues:
-
Players were confused by unclear interaction feedback and navigation
-
Some mechanics (e.g., jump + UI interaction) were difficult to understand early on
-
Hidden elements and low visibility caused frustration instead of intended challenge
-
Background music was perceived as too loud and repetitive
Adjustments & Result
Based on playtest feedback:
-
Level design was adjusted to improve clarity and guidance
-
Visual and interaction cues were refined
-
Audio was iterated:
-
Reduced BGM volume
-
Improved musical clarity and presence
-
Result:
-
Smoother player progression
-
Reduced confusion in puzzle solving
-
Overall positive reception (avg. rating ~4.17/5)
